The Montrone family lived for generations in Italy’s Molise Region. In 1901, Paul’s grandfather, Antonio Montrone—pictured at the center of the photo on the left—came to America to explore what would soon become his new home. Six years later, in 1907, he returned to Italy to bring back his bride, Maria DeCristafaro, who is seated beside him in the same photo. Their children went on to thrive in the United States, including Paul’s father, Angelo Montrone, who is seen standing in the middle of the photo with his young wife, Beatrice Giancini—Paul’s mother.
