The DeCristofaro family lived for generations in Boiano in Italy’s Molise Region. In 1907, Paul’s grandfather, Antonio Montrone, who had gone to America in 1901, returned to Italy to bring back his bride, Maria DeCristofaro, who is standing to the right of her father in the picture on the left. Antonio and Maria settled in Scranton, PA and had five children, including Paul’s father, Angelo Montrone. Maria’s brother’s Domenic and Ernesto also came to America, where they married and had families of their own. Maria’s sister, Concetta, stayed in Italy and became a nun.
